Job Summary

The Chief Inspector reports to the Factory Service Center Manager and is responsible for managing inspections and operations, maintaining the repair station’s roster, communicating as necessary the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) Primary Maintenance Inspector (PMI) on matters relating to regulatory compliance, and for making airworthiness decisions during approval for return to service and release from maintenance activities.

Duties and Responsibilities/Essential Functions

Chief Inspector will:

  • Maintain the repair station (RS) training manuals and roster are kept accurate and current and respond to any FAA request for inspection of the RS certificate.
  • Direct, oversee and assist all personnel performing inspections under the repair station certificate, to include inspectors performing RII inspections on behalf of Part 135 customers are qualified and trained per the operator’s program.
  • Determine that major/minor classification for alterations/repairs are delineated as per repair station manual instructions and accomplished within applicable data.
  • Ensure all incoming, hidden damage, preliminary, in-process, and final inspections are performed in accordance with the procedures set forth in in the RS manuals.
  • Ensure records of all calibrations and checks are kept current and calibrations are performed in accordance with repair station certificate standards.
  • Submit reports of serious failures, malfunctions, or defects in accordance with the procedures described in the RS manual.
  • Act as the primary contact for issues that may arise related to technical data, shelf life, calibrated tooling, and scrap parts.
  • Initiate work outside the RS fixed location as required.
  • Ensure qualifications and perform surveillance of certificated and non-certificated employees performing maintenance.
  • Regular, reliable, and predictable attendance, company vehicle driving requirements estimated at 10%; must have valid driver’s license and acceptable driving record. Travel requirements estimated at 25%.

Qualifications

  • FAA A&P License required, Inspector Authorization highly preferred.
  • Bachelor's degree in aviation science or technology desirable.
  • Eight years’ recent experience in practical aviation inspection and maintenance.
  • Leadership experience in at least one of the following: 145,135 or 121 operation required; formal training strongly preferred.
  • Ability to demonstrate sound judgement and effective communication skills (written and verbal).
  • Ability to effectively manage stress, including competing work demands and multiple projects at the same time.
